Hamstead Housebound Action
Hamstead Housebound Action (H.H.A.) is a Lunch club, which was formed in 1983 and is run entirely by volunteers. Our 35 members are elderly housebound people and we meet every other Wednesday at St. Paul's Community Centre. We provide a freshly cooked two-course lunch, friendship and fellowship.
Using our own specialised minibus and two other buses, provided free of charge by Zak's Bus and Coach Company, we provide transport from door to door.
A cup of tea or coffee is served on arrival and then the members can then make their purchases at our 'shop'. We sell homemade cakes and preserves, greetings cards, sweets, nearly new clothes and books. In season we also sell homegrown plants, fruit and vegetables. We also hold a raffle.
Staff from Tower Hill Library visit us once a month bringing books and tapes for members to borrow.
At Christmas we have a traditional Christmas lunch, followed by the singing of Christmas Carols and songs by children from Calshot School. The festivities end with a visit from Santa who presents the children and all our members with a gift.
During the year we take members on several trips to garden centres and for pub lunches.
During term-time two students from Perry Beeches School help at our regular meetings as part of their community service. All of the students from the school donate Christmas Hampers to our members.
We are a self-supporting charity and we rely on willing volunteers and donations to continue our work. We are always open to offers of help, both financial and practical are always welcome and we encourage more people to join our team. (Registered Charity No. 513931)
